I Refuse To Be Discouraged

“The Twelve Spies Sent to Canaan”

Discouragement is a powerful tool that the enemy can use to hinder you from going forward. Has the enemy bombarded you with discouragement today? The Hebrew meaning of the word "discourage" is to hinder, hold back, forbid, disallow, restrain, frustrate. If the enemy can use every little thing to discourage you, he will start to make inroads into your life. He will eventually prevent you from going forward and completing your assignment.

Our assignment as followers of Jesus Christ is to glorify him by taking the gospel into the entire world.  It is when we hook up to the corporate purpose for the church (preach the gospel), that God will reveal to us our individual purpose.  The corporate purpose is always tied to our individual purpose.

In Number chapter 13 we discover that twelve spies were sent into the land of Canaan by Moses. Two (Caleb and Joshua) came back with a good reports.  "The land we passed through to spy out is an exceedingly good land. 8If the LORD delights in us, then He will bring us into this land and give it to us, "a land which flows with milk and honey.'  9Only do not rebel against the LORD, nor fear the people of the land, for they are our bread; their protection has departed from them, and the LORD is with us. Do not fear them."

However the other ten said this "We went to the land where you sent us. It truly flows with milk and honey, and this is its fruit. 28Nevertheless the people who dwell in the land are strong; the cities are fortified and very large; moreover we saw the descendants of Anak there. 29The Amalekimtes dwell in the land of the South; the Hittimtes, the Jebusimtes, and the Aorimtes dwell in the mountains; and the Canaanimtes dwell by the sea and along the banks of the Jordan."

However Caleb spoke encouragement to the people – "Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it."  The lord said that Caleb had a “different kind of spirit” and he followed the Lord fully.  The Lord said, I will bring him into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it.

How many times have you looked at an impossible situation and thought that is just not possible.  Perhaps you are looking at what’s in your hand and thinking, it’s not enough.  Perhaps you believed the bad report of the enemy and thought there is just no way.  Caleb saw that there were giants in the land but he also knew that God was with him.  He said “Let’s take possession and overcome it”.  Caleb’s trust was in the Lord, not the situation.  Caleb was looking for someone that would believe with him and he was ready to go and conquer the land.  Joshua was such a man.

However, the other ten men saw that the land was good, but decided to give a discouraging report.  They choose to make mountains out of mole hills and making excuses as to why they couldn’t take the land.  They suddenly forgot about the fruit that the land produced and that the land flowed with milk and honey.

They said this "We are not able to go up against the people, for they are stronger than we." 32And they gave the children of Israel a bad report of the land which they had spied out, saying, "The land through which we have gone as spies is a land that devours its inhabitants, and all the people whom we saw in it are men of great stature. 33There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."

We can look at America today and say “there are giants in the land, they are mighty and of great stature?   Are we going to let them decide our future and our grandchildren’s future?  Why can’t we be like Caleb and Joshua and believe God?   When we step out in faith and start bringing in the harvest, God will take care of us?  He promises us just that in Matt 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

If we seek after the Kingdom of God first and his righteousness we are promised that ALL things will be added to us.  The Caleb’s and the Joshua’s are out there plowing the fields and bringing in the harvest.  The bible says that one will put a thousand to flight, and two will put ten thousand to flight.  Why do we believe the report of the enemy instead of what God says?  Has no one challenged the giants in the land?  In Ps 2:8 He says  Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession.   It sounds to me like a promise.  So, what are we waiting for?  Jesus is waiting for his precious harvest to come into his kingdom.  It is when we become kingdom minded and eternity is written on our hearts that nothing will be more important than seeking and saving the lost.

Caleb and Joshua and believed God.  They knew that when they stepped out in faith that God would do what he said he would.   When we start bringing in the harvest,  God will take care of our houses.  He promises us that in Matt 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.  He also made us a promise in Ps 2:8 that he would give us the nations for inheritance.  What are we waiting for????  It’s time for God’s army to rise and take the land!

Prayer: Lord you made us a promise in your word.  You are not a man that you should lie.  You said “Ask me and I will give you the nations for your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession.    Lord, we are asking for the nations and the ends of the earth for our possession.  Lord, we choose not to look at the evil reports that are happening in the world.  We choose not to let discouragement talk us out of the promises that you have made to us.  Lord, you are with us, so who can be against us?  Lord, wake up your sleeping church.  Empower us with the word of God and let us recognize that you have made us a promise.  Lord, you said that you would open doors that no man can shut.  We are asking for an open door for the gospel to go forth.  We are asking for favor and grace where we will need it.  We call in the resources needed and we ask that you strengthen your end time army to plunder the kingdom of darkness and populate the kingdom of heaven.  You said that the gates of hell will not prevail and your church will be built.  Lord, we repent of our selfish desires and we now focus on the kingdom of heaven.  It is your desire and your will that all be saved and none perish.  We will submit ourselves to your vision and all fear will go from us.  Make us all your mighty soldiers, our faces set like flint and having one goal to bring in your end time harvest.  We believe it and we receive it in Jesus Name, Amen.
