I Have Nothing But…!

What's In Your Hand?

Luke 21:1-4 LOOKING UP, [Jesus] saw the rich people putting their gifts into the treasury. 2And He saw also a poor widow putting in two mites (copper coins). 3And He said, Truly I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; 4For they all gave out of their abundance (their surplus); but she has contributed out of her lack and her want, putting in all that she had on which to live.

2 Kings 4:1-6 NOW THE wife of a son of the prophets cried to Elisha, Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. But the creditor has come to take my two sons to be his slaves. 2Elisha said to her, What shall I do for you? Tell me, what have you [of sale value] in the house? She said, Your handmaid has nothing in the house except a jar of oil. 3Then he said, Go around and borrow vessels from all your neighbors, empty vessels–and not a few. 4And when you come in, shut the door upon you and your sons. Then pour out [the oil you have] into all those vessels, setting aside each one when it is full. 5So she went from him and shut the door upon herself and her sons, who brought to her the vessels as she poured the oil. 6When the vessels were all full, she said to her son, Bring me another vessel. And he said to her, There is not a one left. Then the oil stopped multiplying.

Today’s Reflection: God knows what you give, who you give it to and what kind of an attitude you have when you give it. Both times in the scriptures above these women gave out of lack, or just what they had. There were those that were impressed by the big offerings that others were giving, but Jesus noticed the women who gave out of her lack.

There is such a thing as sound biblical prosperity, but it doesn’t come while you’re living a life of sin or you’re giving with a wrong attitude (to be seen or get recognition). It comes when you give with a heart of gratitude & believing God will multiply your resources back to you. When we keep our eyes on the kingdom and put His kingdom first, God promises to take care of everything else. The hour has come for the Body of Christ to be faithful with their giving. Both of the women in scripture had very little, but it was the second one that said “I have nothing but…”

I want to challenge you today to say “I have nothing but…and fill in the blank”. It is important where you sow your seed, good ground will produce much fruit. The bible says “you will know them by their fruit”. The ministry you give or sow into, are they producing fruit? The bible is clear to seek first the kingdom of God & all his righteousness and then all these things will be added unto you (Matt 6:33). The ministries that are seeking the kingdom of God FIRST are the ministries where your seed will produce much fruit. Ask yourself this question about any ministry that you are involved with; what is their vision and how are they fulfilling it and what is the fruit that they have to show for it? Are they doers of the word or just hears and never doing? The bible says Where your treasure is there your heart will be also (Luke 12:34). Where is their treasure? What’s important to them? Because that is where their heart is!
