Sowing Seeds & Getting a Harvest! (Part 1 of 4)

What Kind of Ground are you Sowing into?

Genesis 8:22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Luke 8: 5-8 A sower went out to sow seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the traveled path and was trodden underfoot, and the birds of the air ate it up. 6And some [seed] fell on the rock, and as soon as it sprouted, it withered away because it had no moisture. 7And other [seed] fell in the midst of the thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it [off]. 8And some seed fell into good soil, and grew up and yielded a crop a hundred times [as great]. As He said these things, He called out, He who has ears to hear, let him be listening and let him consider and understand by hearing!

Reflection: Can you recognize the type of ground that you are sowing into according to the parable spoken in Luke 8? Today I want to talk to you about the first kind of ground; the traveled path, trodden underfoot where birds ate up the seed. What is the first step in sowing our seed? Its says that he went out, so that means we have to take a step of obedience to start the process. The next step says he sowed, ok now we have to take action. Next we discover the kind of ground he sowed into. The word of God goes on to tell us in verse 12; that these are the people who have heard the word of God but then the devil comes along and carries away the message out of their hearts, so that they many not believe, acknowledge Jesus as their Savior and devote themselves to him and be saved!

I want you to see that the seed (the word of God) never changes. Hebrews 13:8 says Jesus Christ (the Messiah) is [always] the same, yesterday, today, [yes] and forever (to the ages)! It is the condition of the ground that the seed is sown into that that will determine if the seed will grow & produce a harvest! Our hearts are the ground that God plants his word in, however we make the choice to believe or Not!

When we let circumstances or past situations detour us from what the word of God says, we are setting ourselves up for doubt & unbelief. Declare the word of God over your life, no matter what it looks like. We also come to understand in this parable that fruit can only come forth with patience! The key is never give up and keep trusting God! Tomorrow we will discuss the seed that fell on the rock!
