Sowing Seeds & Getting a Harvest! (Part 2 of 4)

What Kind of Ground are you Sowing into?

Genesis 8:22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.

Luke 8: 5-8 A sower went out to sow seed; and as he sowed, some fell along the traveled path and was trodden underfoot, and the birds of the air ate it up. 6And some [seed] fell on the rock, and as soon as it sprouted, it withered away because it had no moisture. 7And other [seed] fell in the midst of the thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it [off]. 8And some seed fell into good soil, and grew up and yielded a crop a hundred times [as great]. As He said these things, He called out, He who has ears to hear, let him be listening and let him consider and understand by hearing!

Reflection: Yesterday we talked about the traveled path where the seed was trodden underfoot & birds ate it. Today we are going to talk about the ground with circumstances or undesirables! This seed fell on the rock, and as soon as it sprouted, it withered away because it had no moisture. We learned yesterday that the seed (the word of God) never changes, but the conditions that are present can & will. We also learned that the first step to sowing a seed is obedience. The second step to sowing a seed is taking action! Next we discover the ground we are about to sow into.

Ok let’s look at what the next sower does! This sower hears the word, receives it with joy, welcomes it, but has no root (not grounded in the word of God). Therefore when a time of trial or temptation comes along we fall away, withdraw and stand aloof!

How many of have heard that your faith isn’t faith until its tested & tried? I often think of Joseph, who became the prince of Egypt, but around every corner was another test or trail that he had face. He was hated, sold into slavery twice & falsely accused! What if you did everything that God told you to do & you still end up in a pit! Joseph didn't end up in a bit because of disobedience he ended up in one because his brothers hated him! When our faith is tested & tried by circumstances, situations or even evil people, will we believe God & hold fast to his word & know that he is watching out for us? If we are rooted & grounded in the word of God, when the tests & trials come we will stand firm & know that God will bring us through!
