Will you do the Right Thing?

Passing His Test on Integrity & Character

Daniel 1:8 But Daniel determined in his heart that he would not defile himself by [eating his portion of] the king's rich and dainty food or by [drinking] the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might [be allowed] not to defile himself.

Song of Solomon 2:15 [My heart was touched and I fervently sang to him my desire] Take for us the foxes, the [a]little foxes that spoil the vineyards [of our love], for our vineyards are in blossom.

Reflection: Have you ever thought to yourself no one is watching so maybe just this one time I could get away with it. Have you ever said to yourself, its just a little white lie, it didn’t hurt anyone. Maybe you decided you were going to do it anyway & then ask forgiveness afterwards.

God will test us with what we may consider small, before he will give us more responsibility or perhaps even promote us to the next level. Its important to remember that we are God’s representatives & he wants to know that we are reflecting His image to the world. We must make a decision in our hearts not to defile ourselves with the things of this world. When other’s seem to be getting away with things & God is calling you to a higher standard, know that He is counting on you to do the right thing! Will you represent Him properly to the world?

Jesus had a name for such people in his day, he called them hypocrites! Yes we are all on a journey & each day God gives us enough grace to live godly through him. However, there are some situations we will face & God will test us to see if we will properly represent Him. Peter denied knowing Jesus three times. We don’t have to deny knowing Jesus, to fail the test. If we misrepresent Him to another or fail to do the right thing in a situation, we may find ourselves going around that same mountain again. If Satan can’t get us to sin he’ll try to tempt us with a weakness. God never tempts us or tests us with evil, however when the enemy comes with his temptation, God will be watching to see what our choice will be. We have free will, but through grace, his empowerment, we can overcome any situation or temptation that the enemy throws at us. Once we get the victory in this area, it doesn’t mean that the enemy won’t try to tempt us again with it.

What I’ve discovered is that God will allow certain situations in your life to see how you will handle them. When you are tested with money will you handle it properly? If someone were to give you back more money when you were buying groceries, would you speak up & return the money or would you walk out of the store thinking it’s a blessing? What if everyone at the place you work at came in 10 minutes late every day, would you still come in on time? What if you were at a restaurant with a bunch of your Christian friends & they talked down to the wait staff or were rude, would you join in? What if someone walked into your church that was shabbily dressed & you saw the usher escort them to the back of the church, would u go & sit in the back with them, or even go get them & let them sit with you? These may seem like small insignificant things to you but when we are Christ’s representative we need to step up to the plate & do the right thing!

I challenge you today that when you see a situation where you know that you can show the love of God to someone, I pray you will. Perhaps a co-worker would be encouraged knowing that they are appreciated or doing a good job. That young man that is bagging your groceries, why not acknowledge him & thank him. That young student who is waiting on your table, why not strike up a conversation with her & ask her how her day is going. Oh and that person or people that they keep putting in the back of the church because they don’t look like the rest of us, well you want to really make the devil mad? Go get them, take their hand and whoever is with them and let them sit with you & your family. You will irk every religious spirit in that place but you will put a smile on God’s face & you will send the message, you are welcome here!
