The Enemy’s Counterfeit Plan!
Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.
Mark 11:12-14 On the day following, when they had come away from Bethany, He was hungry.13 And seeing in the distance a fig tree [covered] with leaves, He went to see if He could find any [fruit] on it [[a]for in the fig tree the fruit appears at the same time as the leaves]. But when He came up to it, He found nothing but leaves, for the fig season had not yet come.14 And He said to it, No one ever again shall eat fruit from you. And His disciples were listening [to what He said].
Reflection: “I’m just so busy”! We’ve all said it, or heard it, when asked the question, what are you up to these days? It’s a common phrase we use to let people know that we are actively out there in the world doing something. After all, we don’t want people to think that we sit & watch soap operas all day, eat bon bons & sleep till noon, do we? So, we simply fill in the blank with that crafty little word “busy” and it makes us feel good that we are contributing something to the world!
Even while writing this article today, I have to keep my focus on the content of this article, because many things are vying for my attention right now. When we become a Christian, our lives are no longer are own, because Jesus paid a high price for our lives! We don’t dedicate our lives out of rules & regulations, but we serve the Lord because we love & honor Him. As a Christian, the “busyness of spirituality” can become a silent enemy in our lives without even realizing it! The Busyness of Spirituality can cause us to think that we are doing something that is spiritual, but in essence we are just plain busy! If we don’t recognize the busyness of spirituality, it will make every attempt to control, manipulate & steal from us the very plan & purpose that God has for our lives!
Let’s look at the definition of busy & Spirituality and see why it’s the counterfeit plan from the enemy!
Busy means to be: Engaged in activity, as work; occupied; Sustaining much activity.
Spirituality is: The state, quality, manner, or fact of being spiritual.
So now let’s see what the definition of “busy spirituality” could be – Engaged in activity, as work; occupied, sustaining much activity in the state, quality, manner, or fact of being spiritual.
Today we are living in a society that screams for our attention to stay busy, occupied & active! We are a technologically driven society! We have social websites for every possible activity that we can think of. We have Facebook, Twitter, Blogs & Youtube, where information overload is inevitable! We have many other places on the internet that are vying for our attention daily! They speak to us from the moment we wake up in the morning, until the time we lay our head’s on our pillow at night!
The bible speaks about this age and how knowledge will increase and people will run to and fro throughout the earth. Technology can be used to help us to get things done quicker, faster and more efficient, but does it have a place in God’s kingdom? Technology does have a place in God’s kingdom, but it will depend on the motive & intent of the person who is using it. We can use technology to advance God’s kingdom or the world’s agenda!
Can we become, as a Christians, so spiritually busy that we forget to inspect our trees for fruit? Unfortunately the answer to that is, Yes we can! When everything else is screaming for our attention, we have to learn to shut off the voice of the world & tune into the voice of God! We all face the reality of having 24 hours in a day! The key is knowing how to use these hours effectively for God! We all have our to do lists, our jobs, our families, friends and activities, and sometimes God gets second place! Ouch! It’s not because we don’t love Him, but because we don’t understand the importance of starting out our day with Him. We don’t really understand the benefits that we will glean, by seeking His face and listening for His voice early in the morning. We get distracted, frustrated, stressed out and we can’t understand why we have no peace or purpose in our lives.
So, what can we, as Christians, do to assure that we will produce fruit for God’s kingdom?
We must first recognize the busyness of spirituality & root it out of our lives. We must decide that we are going to be fruit producers, letting God work His plan and Purpose in our lives.
Once we take that first step, we are going to have to stay focused on God’s plan & purpose for our lives! The flesh is weak but the spirit is willing. We cannot allow the enemy to drag us back into the bondage of spiritual busyness!
Our prayer & devotion time must become first place in our lives. We can even ask God to help us with our schedules. However, we must be willing to listen to his voice & follow what His word tells us to do! We must realize that we are going to have to make a choice to keep God first place in our live.
We must seek God by prayer & petition (not man) for what He has called us to do! We must seek God and learn from Him how to best utilize our gifts and talents! We must seek God for His kingdom purpose so that we will produce lasting fruit not just leaves. Only God can reveal to us what he wants us to do with our gifts & talents.
- Once we know what our gifts and talents are, we must stay in prayer and listen for God’s voice to give us divine direction and guidance every single day. Then we must take the steps of faith & move forward one step at a time as He leads us to our destiny. We must never look for the acceptance of man, but look to God to keep our feet upon the right path that he has chosen specifically for us.
- Every day we must make a choice that we will not allow spiritual busyness to take the place of producing fruit for His kingdom.
Remember that when you connect the Kingdom vision with your gifts & talents you will produce the fruit that God is seeking for your life. God’s vision for the kingdom has never changed, He desires for all to be saved and none to perish. We must seek God and allow Him to use us to be His hands, feet & voice to those that are without Him. Our first priority must be to tell others about Jesus! As we step out and put God’s kingdom first, God will show us how to integrate our gifts & talents to produce lasting eternal fruit!
